About same-sex marriage

I just posted this response to a fellow member of facebook. This member had a good argument for same-sex marriage. Let me know what you think of my response.

"Your comments are noted, and highly intelligent. Frankly, I'm not a debater and not sure I could argue well in a debate on the issue. What I do feel strongly about, though, is the fact that over two-hundred years ago our founding fathers created this nation because they wanted to free themselves from the religious persecutions and controls that they were made to endure in England. Here, in this nation, we should have a right to practice religion freely, and to practice our beliefs, without the government, or others persecuting us for doing so.

If an amendment passes that will allow same-sex marriage, there will be all sorts of law-suits against churches, pastors, bishops, etc. saying that they, too, should have the right to be married in a particular church. If a particular religion does not agree with this principle, they should not be forced by the government to marry two people of the same sex, nor should they be made to be persecuted or sued by those who will claim it as their right.

If this happens, it will surely be a return to the days before our nation was founded upon rights of all Americans to worship who, where, and what they may."

You are a blogging maniac lately and I love it!!!
So, I think your response was great! You'd hope that there would still be the sanctity of marraige within religous groups! There was a letter read in Sacrament meeting (in California) about a month ago that said something to the affect of...If this ammendment passes, the end is Very near! Crazy to think about! Thanks for your thoughts!

Very well put.

I only wish I could speak that well when faced with conversations such as these about Prop. 8.

Ah, Proposition 8. Yeah, thanks to some judges legislating from the bench, the Church gets to pour money into this mess (for the second time in recent history for this state). I still stand by my assertion that marriage is an institution, and not a civil right. Mark my words: It won't be long before the Church is persecuted for this (on a more national/global scale). Other religions have already had legal action against them.

Good for you for taking a stand! ;-)

That was said perfectly and I will be returning to this blog when I need to quote you. Thanks.
