This is what Lynn had going on in his heart. His hole was 35 mm - that is the same as the width of camera film. Part of the opening was covered by the flaps, but part of it was large enough that blood was free flowing between the two walls all of the time, rather than only when he exerted pressure. The size of the opening that allowed free flow was about 15 mm. That is huge!

These are two sketches of how the device is put in... This device is a little different than the one that Lynn has, but it is put in the same way. It should take about 2 years for the flesh to completely grow over the stent and heal.

Very interesting!! Terence's mom needs surgery for something very similar, so seeing the illustrations helped me get a better idea of what her doctor was talking about.
