I decided to shampoo my carpets today. Since I am a perfectionist at some things, I typically do it myself with the Rug Doctor. That way I can go over certain spots that I know need it more than others. Plus, with all of the chemicals, the upholstery tool, blah, blah, blah, it costs only $60. That's a whole lot cheaper than paying a professional to do my whole house; not to mention the extra charges they give me if I want them to clean my couches or chairs.
Anyway, whenever I do this, I always crank up the water heater as high as it will go. I know that the professionals use temperatures that are extremely hot, and I want to make sure that my carpet gets CLEAN. By the way- ALWAYS tell your spouse or kids when you do this. If you don't, they can get burned really badly by the usual placement of the knob on the sink or the setting on the shower!
I took a break to have lunch and decided to make some spaghetti. Being the weirdo that I am I thought it might be interesting to see how long it would take to get the water to boil, if I used this current hot water that is waaay hotter than normal. So I filled the pan with about 2-3 cups of water, at the hottest it came out of the tap. I already had the stove on all the way so that all I had to do was see how long it took to come to a boil. Here are the results:
The INSTANT I put it on the stove it started forming bubbles on the bottom of the pan.
By 40 SECONDS I had a strong simmer.
At 1 MINUTE 4 SECONDS the water was at a rolling boil!!!
At how high my tap water temp. is right now, I could have just poured water over the noodles and they would have been done!

That is some mighty hot water! OK, do you use hot water out of the tap normally.
I used to, but my MIL gave me a slight tongue lashing about all the chemicals that come out in hot water, and that you are SUPPOSED to only use cold from the tap for human consumption.
Have you ever heard that??
No, I've never heard that. But I'm not gonna start now. I figure that life is too short to try to boil cold water just because it may be healthier; especially when I could walk across the street tomorrow and get hit by a bus!
I've wanted to clean my carpets lately. Maybe I'll have to come and recruit you for some professional help!
