And then, with the breath of kindness, blow the rest away...

My dad introduced me to the world of beautiful quotes and how powerful they can be when I was in high school. I have since come to love poetry and quotes written in the language of the 19th century. I just love how the words roll off the tongue, and paint a picture that only the most talented of the generations can paint.

He just posted this gem on his facebook account, a very familiar quote, as this is one of many that he taught me to love when I was younger. It is beautiful, and speaks of true friendship. I have always tried to be this kind of friend, not just because I want to be this kind of person for my friends, but also because I hope that if I can be like this, then I will find a few friends who will be like this for me too.

The latter part of the excerpt is the more familiar and more often quoted part, and probably the more powerful of the two, but I have included the preceding sentence as well here.

"But oh! the blessing it is to have a friend to whom one can speak fearlessly on any subject; with whom one's deepest as well as one's most foolish thoughts come out simply and safely. Oh, the comfort--the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person--having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but pouring them all right out, just as they are, chaff and grain together; certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and then with the breath of kindness blow the rest away."

thanks for sharing. That really is a great one. I love quotes too. I used to make myself notebooks and carry them around so I could write things down as I discovered them. I hope you'll share some more of your favorites!

I loved that. It is so true! True friends are those that you can be yourself and they still love you.
