Stop Texting and Pay Attention!

Today I was doing a session in a classroom, and had written a bunch of stuff on the board. We were writing a blues song, and I had written the lyrics on the board and wanted to have one of the peer tutors in the classroom write it down for me.

This one peer tutor was busy texting away when she was asked to help. As I pointed to the board, which was (as I said before) full of lyrics, I asked her, "would you write this down, please?," she got up and started toward the board and asked me, "you want me to write it on the board?" I don't even know if thoughts went through my mind, but if they did, they were these: did she just actually ask me if she should write this down on the board, when it's already on the board? What would she be writing on the board, then?

Before I even thought about it, I just said, in a voice as sardonic as it could be, "No, it's already on the board! Write it on a piece of paper." I think I made this girl feel pretty dumb, and I felt a little bad, but not too much, because after all, had she been paying attention in the first place, and not texting whoever she was texting, she wouldn't have asked such a stupid question!

I get frustrated with texters too! I do text, but really try to do it on my own time. That is frustrating. Maybe she was confused because she does not even know what paper and pencil is anymore, it seems like those items are going out of style.

YEAH! Like using correct grammar. When did that go out the window? No wonder half of America doesn't know how to say "you are cool". They say UR COOL. Or even worse...your cool. Your cool what?

Hey Tricia-

You're cool.

I am totally not a texter (I don't know if that is correct grammar - it might not be a word at all)! What can't wait until class is over (I doubt it was an emergency). I can only repeat what Amie said, "what a crazy world!"

I. HATE. TEXTING.

I even had it blocked on my phone, it's the dumbest invention ever. Just call the person if it's that important. Then again, many cell coversations as just wasting time anyway.

I'm with you. I hate texting, and it especially shouldn't be done during church or school. Most of my nieces and nephews text, and there are some who have lost communication skills, because they don't talk to people, they text. It especially makes me crazy if I see it while driving. Come on!
